Getting to Know the Medix Team – Say Hello to Shireen

Q: What is your position at Medix?
A: I am the Head Nurse in Medix’ HK Office

Q: What does this entail?
A: As Head Nurse at Medix, I work in a supervisory and supportive role, responsible for coordinating all activities within the nursing department. My job is to make sure that the Personal Medical Case Management (PMCM) service always functions optimally while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and accuracy.

I am also involved in the recruiting and training of new members into the team as we expand with the ever-increasing service demand.

Additionally, my position includes me having to work in collaboration with Medix' Global Medical Director, Research Department, in-house doctors, medical advisors and patients to deliver exceptional service to ensure that every one of them receives optimal, personlised care.

Q: What is your educational and professional background?

A: I studied at the University of Hong Kong where I obtained my Bachelor of Nursing, graduating with Honours. I hold a Practicing Certificate as a Registered Nurse (General) from the Nursing Council of Hong Kong and a Certificate of Registration issued from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Before joining Medix, I held a position as a registered nurse at a regional acute hospital that provides tertiary and quaternary care, working in several different wards, including pediatric hematology, oncology, bone marrow transplant, adult mixed specialties private ward, and adult intensive care unit. During my time there, I was able to gain extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in caring for patients while managing their medical and emotional needs.

Q: What do you like best about your work at Medix?
A: There are many different aspects to my job that I enjoy. Most importantly is the level of detail we go into and the time we have to interact with each of our patients on a more personal level. This allows me to gain a better understanding of each individual case, fostering strong foundations of trust with patients, as they share their concerns, feelings and expectations with me. When working in the hospital, you are often pressed for time running from patient to patient, while PMCM provides the framework to put the patient in the center and provide personalised and holistic care.

I am also in an incredible position which enables me to collaborate with some of the world's most renowned specialists through PMCM service, interact with Medix’ Research Department and also work with our exceptional teams of Doctors and Nurses across different disciplines which also helps further develop my medical knowledge.

Q: What does success mean to you?
A: I feel that my previous clinical years have helped me be a better nurse and case manager, equipped to meet all aspects of the job head-on. I have succeeded in truly making a difference in peoples’ lives for the better. I feel l am really playing a vital role in advocating for patient's health and wellbeing, while providing valuable support and clinical guidance. This is what true success means to me.

Q: Do you have any hobbies?
A: In recent years, Yoga has become my focus. I have found that it has increased my body's physical wellbeing, strength and flexibility through controlled movement while gifting me serenity and peace of mind as a result of its meditative practices.

Q: Do you have any parting words of wisdom to share?
A: "It is not how much you do, but how much love you put in the doing."

– Mother Teresa
