Medix Saved Mrs. Adams Kidney

A Thai specialist informed Mrs. Adams that she should have a surgery to remove her kidney. After reviewing her medical records Medix thought otherwise

Mrs. Adams (52), who resides in Thailand, is already familiar with Medix and its services. Last year she was referred to Medix after she was confronted with the unfortunate diagnosis of breast cancer.

So, when a routine cancer check-up revealed that a mass previously diagnosed in her uterus had doubled in size – Mrs. Adams already knew she had someone to rely on.

After seeing a local specialist who recommended undergoing surgical removal of the uterine mass along with a complete removal of her ovaries, Mrs. Adams approached Medix for review of her proposed surgical treatment plan; Needless to say she was hesitant and fearful to undergo such a surgery.

Unfortunately, while reviewing her radiology imaging, Medix' team identified yet another mass located in Mrs. Adams kidney. After having referred the patient to various tests, and having multidisciplinary discussions, Medix advised close monitoring of the mass in the kidney and confirmed the locally proposed plan of surgery to the uterus.

Feeling confident with her confirmed recommendation, Mrs. Adams underwent a successful surgery and with Medix at her side Mrs. Adams had an uneventful recovery.

Following the surgery, Mrs. Adams carried out Medix' recommendation on additional imaging. It was noted that the mass in the kidney had grown since the previous scan. The local specialist referred Mrs. Adams for a surgical consultation in view to completely remove the kidney - radical nephrectomy.

Understanding the risks involved, Mrs. Adams was very concerned. Once again facing the prospects of a serious surgery, she instinctively turned to Medix for advice on her recommendations.

You can only imagine how relieved she was when Medix, after reviewing the new information, concluded that immediate surgery was not necessary.

Medix' specialists consultants determined that there was a significant chance that the growth was benign. Moreover, they felt strongly that preservation of the kidney was of prime importance. The reason for this is Mrs. Adams background of breast cancer. Kidneys play an important role in the body’s ability to process medication and undergo intense medical treatments. Having an impaired renal system, such as having a single kidney, would bar Mrs. Adams from numerous treatment options should her breast cancer recur. Keeping the long term in mind, Medix recommended that surgery should be avoided and advised Mrs. Adams that even if surgery was called for in the future, only the removal of the mass would be sufficient and that in good surgical hands radical nephrectomy was unnecessary.

Mrs. Adams felt relieved and in good hands, knowing that she had obtained objective, high quality medical recommendations by leading specialists along with on-going support and guidance by her personal medical team.
She has avoided unnecessary surgery and is feeling just fine now.
